Sonoma Plaza is the located in the heart of Sonoma, California. The town, once known as El Pueblo de Sonoma, was developed around the plaza. Several historic buildings surround the plaza and its open green space. The town teems with shops and restaurants, all which lie within walking distance of one another, including a number of wine tasting rooms. Free of the hustle and bustle of most urban centers, the Sonoma Plaza is wonderful place to dine, shop, or just relax and enjoy historic surroundings.

In addition to all the wine and cheese stops, you will also find a variety of full-service restaurants around Sonoma Plaza. You can find nearly every type of cuisine, from Mexican and Latin American fare, to traditional Californian dishes. There are also eateries specializing in various European and Himalayan dining. Most restaurants are an easy walk from the square. There are also many great places to eat in other parts of Sonoma, as well as neighboring Napa.

Farmer’s Market and Other Ongoing Events at Sonoma Plaza

It seems like there’s always something happening in Sonoma Plaza. In addition to admiring the historic architecture, fine shops, and quaint restaurants, there are many events that take place in and around the plaza. On Saturdays and Tuesdays, the farmer’s market open’s to the public. Artists descend upon the plaza every Friday for a show and wine tasting at Sunflower Cafe. The first Friday of the month is the Arts Guild of Sonoma Reception, which is held in the plaza. On Saturday nights, music fans can enjoy live jazz at the Plaza Bistro.
